Insulet appoints first chief R&D officer amid intensifying competition in insulin pump market
Insulet announced on Monday that it has appointed Divakar Ramakrishnan as its first-ever chief R&D officer. Ramakrishnan will be responsible for leading global product development and research affairs, at a time when the company faces intense competition from other insulin pump makers. He previously served as chief scientific, innovation, and quality officer at Convatec.

Insulet confirmed on Monday (March 24) that it has hired Divakar Ramakrishnan as the company's first-ever Chief R&D Officer. Ramakrishnan will oversee global product development and R&D efforts, at a time when the company faces increasing competition from other insulin pump manufacturers.
"This is an important milestone in strengthening Insulet's innovation capabilities and accelerating our exciting product pipeline to serve more diabetes patients worldwide," an Insulet spokesperson said in an email statement.
Ramakrishnan announced the new role on LinkedIn on Mondayposted about the new position, adding that the strength of Insulet's product portfolio and pipeline attracted him to the role.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Ramakrishnan's background includes serving as Chief Science, Innovation, and Quality Officer at medical device company Convatec. Before joining Convatec, he was Chief Digital Officer at Eli Lilly.
Insulet focuses on manufacturing insulin patch pumps for diabetes management and is currently developing new technology, while competitors are also advancing their own products. At a recent diabetes conference, Insuletpresented key data on its next-generation patch pump, the Omnipod 6, as well as a fully closed-loop automated insulin delivery system for type 2 diabetes patients—one that requires no carbohydrate counting or pre-meal boluses.
